In March 1867, many of the brothers were of German parentage, and desiring to establish a lodge whereas the degree work might be given in a language more readily understood, decided to request the Grand Lodge for a recommendation for a new lodge for this purpose.
The proposed Pythagoras Lodge was granted dispensation and instituted Under Dispensation on April 7, 1867 - the installation services being performed by Past Grand Master Thomas R. Austin, acting as the deputy of the Grand Master.
At the annual meeting of the Grand Lodge in May, 1867 - the work of Pythagoras Lodge having been approved by the Committee on Charters and Warrants - their petition for charter was granted.
